Frequently Asked Questions

Q: ARE GUIDES REQUIRED?
A: No, you will be given maps of the Lakes. These maps will have detailed information and spots where to catch fish. Someone can also take you out and show you the areas if needed.

Q: I DON'T HAVE MY PLEASURE BOAT OPERATORS LICENSE, HOW WILL THIS AFFECT MY TRIP?
A: Boater education cards or any other government equivalency cards will also work. If you don't have any of these, we can take you through an educational checklist which you mush sign before operating any of our boats. In addition, everyone must sign a waiver before operating any of our equipment.

Q: CAN I BUY MY FISHING LICENSE AT THE LODGE?
A: No, you can however purchase it online or at numerous places on the drive up. We strongly urge you to stop in Meadow Lake and get them there if haven't already done so.

Q: DO YOU SELL BAIT AND TACKLE AT THE LODGE?
A: No We do not sell bait. But, we will have a couple of spare rods and tackle boxes available if someone should happen to forget theirs at home.

Q: I DON'T OWN A FOUR WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE, HOW WILL I GET TO YOUR FACILITY?
A: A float plane is available to fly in from Fort McMurray.

Q: HOW MANY HOURS CAN I FISH?
A: In the past, most people have left after breakfast and returned for dinner or supper at the latest. We expect everyone to let us know where they are going before they leave in the morning and to return by six in the evening. If you wish to go out in the evening again, no problem, but we ask that you stay fairly close to the lodge and of course, let us know what area that you will be in. Even though you can drive to this operation it is still a large remote area with over one hundred miles of shoreline.

Q: DO YOU HAVE PHONE SERVICE AT THE CAMPS?
A: There will be a two way radio at the outpost of Forest Lake where you can radio the lodge at Beet Lake and a satellite phone at Beet Lake. the satellite phone costs $6.00 a minute to use. There are some new products on the market today that are made by Delorme. The Inreach units can work with your smart phones allowing your family member to text you or you to text them anywhere in the world for a minimal fee. You might want to purchase one of these units for yourself before coming up.

Q: IF I AM STAYING AT THE OUTPOST CAMP, HOW WILL I KEEP MY FISH FROM SPOILING?
A: The outpost cabins have 12 volt lighting and propane fridges. The Beet Lake freezer room is just a short boat ride away, you can drive over and put them in the freezer.

Q: WHAT KIND OF BOAT AND MOTORS DO YOU HAVE?
A: Guests staying a the lodge will get a sixteen foot lund with a 20 horse motor and guests staying at the outpost cabins will get a fourteen foot lund with a 9.9 horsepower engine. We supply one boat for every two people but you can fish with three people to a boat if you want to.

Q: YOU HAVE STATED THAT THIS IS A REMOTE AREA, WHAT HAPPENS IF MY BOAT ENGINE BREAKS DOWN AND LEAVES US STRANDED?
A: This is why we want your group staying together so that you can look out for yourselves or be able to have the other boat bring you back to the lodge. It is also why you must let us know where you are going before you head out so we will be able to find you if you don't make it back by supper time.

Q: YOU SAID THAT WE ARE WELCOME TO BRING OUR ATV'S, IS GAS AVAILABLE TO PURCHASE AT THE LODGE?
A: Yes, you can purchase fuel from us, but with the cost of having to transport it in, its going to cost you $2.00 a litre, so about $50.00 a jerry can. Please bring your own.

Q: IN YOUR BROCHURE YOU STATE THAT QUADS WERE AVAILABLE TO RENT, DO YOU SUPPLY HELMETS?
