The Drive In

The drive in is part of the adventure!

From the town of Meadow Lake Saskatchewan, it is approximately a six hour trip to the Forest Lake Outpost Camp where you will be picked up and ferried to the lodge by a pontoon boat. We recommend buying your groceries and fishing licenses in Meadow Lake if you haven't already done so. Our guests are asked to phone the lodge before leaving La Loche with a full fuel tank as there will be no phone service ahead.

After giving us an arrival time when we can expect to meet you, travel down HWY 955 at a suggest speed of 80 km/hr. Carry at least one good spare and make sure that you have the tools to change it. Along the roadside you will notice small shrines built by the locals to remember/honor the passing of their loved ones, please be respectful of their culture and and do not approach the shrines or touch their offerings.

We also suggest that you make a pit stop at the Clearwater River turn out to stretch your legs, and soak in the areas beauty. The road is posted with marker posts, and at KM 155 you will notice the Patterson Lake sign on your right hand side. Turn right here, travel about 500 meters and turn right again. Stay on the main trail. The trail is a narrow, hilly, rock infested, winding up and down trail approximately 11.5 kms long. It will take you about 90 minutes to travel it. You will have to pick your way in around the boulders. This is the Canadian Shield! DO NOT TRY TO DRIVE HERE WITH A SMALL CAR OR MOTOR HOME. You will NOT make it in. If needed, you can park your vehicle at the beginning of the trail and we can come and get you and haul your gear in. A normal pickup truck or SUV will make it in, but make sure that your tires are in good shape.

If the road seems a little daunting, please remember that people have been driving up and down it for the past sixteen years. Enjoy the adventure!
